SHINE ON THIS SEASON

With summer officially behind us, it is time to stock up the trendiest shades for this fall and winter. No longer are we confined to a restrictive pallet of earth tones for this season. The new colors taking over the fashion world have also become this season’s trendiest makeup combinations.  These latest top charting hues are ones that are fun, bold, daring and ultra chic.

First on the list of “must haves” are cool metals. This color group consists of eye colors such as: granites, copper glow, blue metal and silver satin. These colors are the perfect show stopper when you combine them with an outfit accessorized with bold, chunky jewelry. Be sure to wear layers of chains and glam it up by adding jewels to your neckline. You can then create a towering effect by wearing your favorite show stopping high heels while creating mile long lashes with our Ultimate Mascara in black. By creating the length from one end to the other you are also creating a classy, slimming effect that is sure to get you noticed. The experts have stated that “the shinier the better” this season. From sleek, metallic finishes to slick lips-shine rules. You too can shine on with our striking gloss finishes. The favorite colors in this department this season are: Berry Sparkle, Bronze Bliss and Sugarberry.

Do not miss out on this season’s trend. It is energetic and experimental. You will see that it is a bold clash of colors, shape and modern details. It is the new urban cool inspired by the pulse of the city both day and night. The collections are imaginative and beautifully daring. And you can wear it well!!!

SAY GOOD-BYE TO SUMMER BUT NOT YOUR SUN KISSED GLOW

September 21, 2010 was the official last day of summer. But, that doesn’t mean that you cannot keep that beautiful summer glow all year round. There are numerous products available to help you achieve or keep that golden, bronzed look that so many of us love. You can use a self tanner or bronzer to make your skin glow without having to damage your skin with the use of a tanning bed or exposing yourself to harmful UV rays.
Below are some tips to help you achieve various degrees of “natural tan” for a variety of skin tones. Read on to discover which hue best fits you!!

Lightly Sun Kissed
A naturally sun kissed look can be achieved year-round by applying bronzer to places where the sun would hit your face. Mix equal parts moisturizing bronzing lotion with foundation for a sheer, all-over glow that warms up your complexion, or apply it (over liquid foundation) to the high parts of the face. Be sure to avoid mixing wet bronzing formulas with powder foundation or blush.
Sun-Kissed Makeup: Complement a lightly sun-kissed glow with warm pink shades and dewy golden glosses. You will also find that using colored mascara will also help to bring out your eyes.
Golden Glow
For an all-over golden tone that’s perfect for an exotic vacation, try a sheer bronzer that’s a few shades deeper than your skin tone. Blend to perfection. With a fluffy brush, apply pressed powder bronzer where the sun would naturally hit your face. In a sweeping motion that mimics the number three, brush on color to the outer part of each side of the face. Are you in the mood for a loose powder? Swirl your brush over the top of a pressed powder until it loosens then spill the dust into the palm of your hand. Apply as usual.
Golden Glow Makeup: A golden glow looks fetching when paired with shades of peach, gold, coral and sea blue.
Goddess Bronze
A deep, Barbie-perfect tan brings out the color of your eyes and complements highlights in your hair.  This island look is best achieved with deep bronzing products—stay out of the sun! Mix equal parts foundation and bronzer (liquid, foam or gel) for an all-over glow or use these formulas to tan the highpoints of the face: bridge of the nose, temples and cheekbones. Before leaving the house, don’t forget to check your jaw line for tell-tale lines of demarcation.  For best blending, do not mix with powder blush or foundation.
Goddess Bronze makeup: Accent a goddess bronze tan with metallic bronze shadow, bright and juicy lip glosses in shades of pimento red and tangerine. Use highlighters sparingly.

Be Your Own Picasso

With the stroke of a brush we can change our looks to whatever we choose. There is an unlimited array of looks that can be achieved with the use of makeup. The major tool for accomplishing the task is a great set of makeup brushes. When you own a set of makeup brushes that you completely adore you are allowing yourself to become your own personal Picasso.
Why have a complete set of brushes you may ask? Well each brush is designated to a certain area of your face.  There are certain terms used to describe the characteristics of a brush.
Here are some general descriptive words used to describe brush characteristics:
  • brush head shape;  square, dome, tapered, angled, slant etc
  • brush head size; fine (extra small), small, medium, large, extra large
  • bristles; natural hair -sable, squirrel, goat vs.  synthetic- nylon, taklon
  • bristles; texture-fine, soft, coarse
  • bristles; firm, stiff, dense etc.
  • handle length; long, short, 'travel size'

The following is an essential list of the brushes we need to be the mastermind behind making over our own faces.
FACE
EYES
EYE LASHES
  • clean mascara wand/ spool
EYE BROWS

Pucker Up for Kissable Lips

All of us want to have kissable lips. Our lips are one of the first features that other people notice when they see us. Therefore, we should emphasize one of the most alluring assets of our body’s whenever we can. Lips can drastically change your appearance by choice of color, sheen and visible softness. We can be sporting a completely makeup free face but, apply a little splash of color to the lips and you feel immediately uplifted and glamorous.
I have broken down the process of modeling kissable lips into three easy steps.
Step 1: PREPARING THE CANVAS aka YOUR LIPS
You want to first smooth your lips with a balm. Just like the rest of our skin, our lips experience a lot of damage due to climate changes, our biological genes and even bad habits we may possess (licking our lips, nibbling our lips, etc.). Our lips need moisture and applying a balm helps to keep them moisturized. You can also use a lip primer (my personal favorite) to ensure the appearance of smooth lips while prolonging the wear of your lip color. When using a waxing balm or lip primer you will apply it using your fingertips and massage it into your lips. Allow your lips to absorb the product by waiting at least five minutes before apply your color. Whatever your choice may be, you will want to avoid any products that are slick or petroleum based. If you don’t, your lipstick will almost immediately vanish. Using these types of products ultimately makes your lip color “fall off.”
Step 2: CHOOSE YOUR SPLASH OF COLOR/LIPSTICK
When choosing your color of lipstick, remember to always think of the look you are trying to achieve. If you are going for a more down to earth/casual look choose a color that allows your natural lip color to show through. In this case, you will want to go with a sheer lipstick or sheer gloss to obtain that look. Then of course, you can vamp it up as dramatically as you would like with the wide range of colors now available to dress up your lips. Apply lipstick straight from the tube and blend into lips and the lines along your lips with your fingertips. After doing so, to make your color last all day kiss a Kleenex to blot. Then you will apply your choice of lip gloss with the wand of the gloss or your choice of lip brushes.
Step 3: BLOTTING
When you are finished applying your colors you will want to lightly kiss the back of your hand. This allows you to get rid of any excess product without cutting down the sheen. Then gently smack your lips together to even out your color one last time. Then get ready to pucker up…
For a wide array of lipstick and lip gloss choices please visit my website at: www.marykay.com/ur4beauty. There you will also find products to help you pamper your lips with the attention kissable lips deserve.

For the Guys

Happy Thursday world! When I decided to start this blog it was in an effort to offer beauty tips that I believe it and have personally benefited from. My intentions are for this blog to be for men and women. So the info I offer on the male portion comes from first hand experience and knowledge I have gained through research. I want to captivate the men just as much as I do the women when it comes to the world of beauty. I want to make sure all the guys out there don't feel less important when it comes to pampering yourself. Believe it or not fellas...being pampered does not lessen your masculinity. You should come away feeling relaxed and more empowered :-) Not to mention, the fact that you can and will pamper yourselves makes your more attractive to the ladies!! I'm just sayin'. LOL!!
Yesterday I talked about skin hydration for the ladies. But, it is vital that the men also take steps to keep their skin hydrated as well. As we all know men have the daunting task of shaving their facial hair on a daily basis (unless you are sporting a Karl Marx trademark beard). Shaving is an especially important reason that the guys need to keep their skin hydrated. Men experience skin inflammation more commonly than the female population. With this being said, guys should give their skin the VIP treatment on a regular basis. Be sure to look for products that contain witch hazel, vitamin B5 & capuacu butter. These are key ingredients that help prevent infection and inflammation within male skin cells. For the gentlemen who choose to shave at night, be sure to choose a product that contains Shea butter and/or avocado oil. You want to avoid fragrances, minerals, and alcohols in the cream.
I will be happy to help you start your skin care regimen or add to one you may already have in progress. You can contact me directly or visit my website at:

Have a great day!!

Skin Hydration

Loving yourself begins ultimately with you taking care of yourself, emotionally & physically. One of the easiest and most convenient ways to do that is by hydrating your skin. Hydration is very important (if not THE MOST IMPORTANT) thing that we can do for our skin. It is a pampering of sorts to your skin cells, allow them to regenerate and replenish. It is also important to note that hydration is just as important to the rest of your body as well. It is a well known fact that the human body is composed of 70% water; therefore it is vital to drink lots of water every day. Most doctors advise us to drink AT LEAST 64 ounces of water daily. That's a lot of water and a lot of bathroom breaks LOL!! For those of us who find it difficult to consume that much water in a day there are other steps you can take to keep your skin as hydrated as it should be. For those of you true warriors who CAN and DO drink that much water in your day I am in awe and completely jealous of your daily ritual to do so. There are steps you "water babies" can practice to strengthen the already solid foundation you have to take care of your skin.
For women, it is very important that we use a cream to hydrate after our everyday cleansing. It is not breaking news that women abuse their skin more than men. Most of us have a daily routine of applying our makeup to make ourselves presentable to the world and to keep up in this fast paced world that is consistently focused on glamour. It is vital to use a hydrating cream after your daily facial cleansing to replenish and repair your skins cells. With every cleanser, yes even a gentle one, the moisture in your skin is reduced. When your skin is dry it is very prone to damage.
Women should also use a hydrating mask twice a week to aid in your skin maintenance program. Using the right product can help you to diminish the dry spots and the improvement will be visibly noticeable. The experience of seeing your skin transform into a firm, toned and textured part of your body will motivate you to pamper your entire body.
If you are in need of assistance or a "coach" to help you begin, change or step up your routine I am here for you. Mary Kay offers a skin care products for all skin types. Whether you need a cleanser, toner, or cream I can give you what you need. To view these products and a free virtual makeover, please visit my website @ www.marykay.com/ur4beauty.
